Fire Designs: : Custom Branding, Website Design & Development.

Fire Designs by Makenna Mellott is a portfolio website showcasing works of art, graphic design, illustrations, and motion graphics, all created by Graphic Design Student and Artist, Makenna Mellott. Makenna is currently specializing in Graphic Design at University of Northern Colorado, and will be graduating in 2027. 

We had such a great time collaborating with Makenna on her custom logo design. She already had her stunning artwork created, she just needed a little help with the typography for now, and that's where 5280Devs came in to help and complete a logo that spoke her unique story.

First, we created a version of the logo with a playful font, but we quickly realized we were challenged with the height of the artwork and maintaining the detail, while keeping the typography a legible size even when small.

So we revisited with Makenna, and she beautifully redesigned the artwork slightly to reduce the height while still maintaining the integrity of her brand's message. With the new artwork, we then worked with Makenna to select a couple of different fonts that spoke more to her story. We also updated the colors to soften things up a bit.

After a few rounds of tweaks, Makenna and we were very happy with the logo we created together, and we were ready to move onto additional branding - the brand and mood board.

With the brand identity established and the logo design completed, we were ready to explore more design concepts with Makenna. We knew we wanted the website design to be a bit bold - playing along with her color palette, and Makenna had let us know she specifically liked the fiery reds and purples, with some oranges and yellow, and that she would like it to have a mystical feel.

We had a lot of fun playing with these fiery colors against a dark background, but we also want to be sure to offer an option that is more ADA compliant, so we created a more ADA compliant and light as well. This way we'll have more "play" flexibility with the dark theme, while still offering a version that is more accessible to all with the light theme.

We set up a Coming Soon page for Makenna while we're finishing up the website design and build. This helps to build anticipation for what's to come, provides the potential to begin collecting leads, enhances SEO, and communicates to visitors that there's more to come.
