World Health Day & Charlotte Figi Day
Today, April 7th, marks two powerful occasions: World Health Day, a global call to action for universal access to health and healing, and Charlotte Figi Day here in Colorado - a tribute to the young girl who became a symbol of hope in the fight for compassionate cannabis care.
While these observances may seem different on the surface, they both point to something deeper: healing should be accessible, compassionate, and rooted in love. And sometimes, it takes bravery - from families, from small business owners, and from communities - to challenge outdated systems and advocate for better.
Who Was Charlotte Figi?
🌿 Charlotte Figi was just five years old when she captured hearts around the world. Born with Dravet syndrome, a severe form of epilepsy, she suffered from hundreds of seizures a week. After exhausting all medical options, her family turned to an experimental high-CBD cannabis oil - a bold choice at the time. Miraculously, Charlotte’s seizures nearly stopped.
Her story sparked a movement. Families across the country demanded access to safe, effective cannabis-based treatments for their loved ones. Charlotte became a face of that change. And in 2020, when she tragically passed away due to complications believed to be related to COVID-19, Colorado honored her legacy by declaring April 7th as Charlotte Figi Day.
Charlotte’s life reminds us that health is not one-size-fits-all. And healing doesn’t always come in the form of a prescription pad.

World Health Day: Health for All
🌎 This year’s World Health Day theme is a bold and timely one: “My health, my right.” It highlights the need for health equity around the world - for every person, in every community, to have access to the care they need to thrive.
But what does “health” truly mean?
For many of us in the holistic, metaphysical, and wellness spaces, health means more than just physical care. It includes emotional support, spiritual grounding, natural remedies, and community-based healing. It means acknowledging that true well-being often lies outside of institutional walls - and sometimes, outside of conventional medicine entirely.
A Personal Note from Daemon: : Partner of 5280Devs
For me, this isn’t just a blog post - it’s a reflection of something deeply personal.
My dad has lived with hydrocephalus for most of his life, and it became prominent shortly after I was born. It’s a condition that can cause extreme pressure on the brain, leading to seizures and a long list of complications. For years, we tried everything - medications, procedures, specialists. But it wasn’t until we explored “experimental” THC treatments that things finally began to shift.
It was the only thing that helped his seizures, and has ultimately kept him alive.
At the time, these treatments weren’t easy to access. There was stigma, fear, red tape. But we pursued it because we had to. I spent five years as my dad’s primary caregiver, witnessing firsthand how difficult - but also how necessary - it is to fight for compassionate care.
Charlotte Figi’s story resonates with me because it mirrors so many families’ experiences, including my own. It reminds us that real healing often exists outside the boundaries of conventional care - and that people deserve access to what truly helps them heal.

- Health is a human right.
- And small businesses can be a big part of the solution.
In Charlotte’s Memory
🕯️ As we honor both World Health Day and Charlotte Figi Day, let’s remember that healing is often found on the edges - among the brave, the loving, and the curious. Let’s continue to advocate for compassionate access, uplift holistic healers, and support those who challenge the status quo for the sake of others.
"She was a light that lit the world. She was a little girl who carried us all on her small shoulders."
